Gretchen (Sawdey) Wheeler

Gretchen Wheeler 65, of Fruitland passed away Thursday March 19, 2020 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  Memorial services will be held at a later date.   Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello, formerly The Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home is caring for the family.   Online condolences may be left at sandhfuneralservice.com. 

Gretchen Sawdey was born on September 24, 1954, in Burlington, the daughter of Douglas and Helen Young Sawdey.  Gretchen moved to Ohio at the age of 3 and returned to Iowa in 1978.  She married Michael Wheeler on August 22, 1980 in Wapello.  Gretchen was a florist for many years, working in various shops in Muscatine.  Later, she was a caretaker for people with special needs.  Gretchen enjoyed reading, putting together puzzles and playing solitaire.

She will be dearly missed by her husband, Michael of Fruitland; son, Todd (Mary) Wheeler of Muscatine; siblings, Garth Sawdey of Corallville, IA, Tena Foster of Ohio, Kristin (Larry) Lleweyn of Ohio, Eric Sawdey of Ohio, Margit (Dan) Sawdey of New York City, Matt Sawdey of Ohio.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Nile and Stuart Sawdey.
