Gregg P. Hawley, 73, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023 at Rock Island National Cemetery. The family would like those interested in attending the committal service to join them at the parking lot of the Visitor Center of Rock Island National Cemetery, 2300 Prospect Drive, Rock Island, Illinois at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, July 28, 2023. Everyone will then enter the gates to Rock Island National Cemetery as a group. Following the committal services a Celebration of Life for Gregg will be held at the Muscatine American Legion from 3:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. on Friday evening. Gregg Porter Hawley was born on April 8, 1947 in Muscatine, Iowa the son of James and Janet (Mohr) Hawley. Gregg was a 1965 graduate of Muscatine High School; also graduating from Muscatine Community College and attending the University of Iowa. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from September 14, 1966 until April 17, 1969. Gregg was united in marriage to Nancy Parker in Muscatine on July 10, 1971. Gregg worked at HON Industries for 30 years, retiring in 2000. After retirement he worked for River Rehab Physical Therapy and On Time Delivery. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion of Muscatine, Blackhawk Car Club and past member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed camping, boating, muscle cars, fishing and traveling. In April 2018, he visited the Vietnam Wall in Washington D.C. On August 10, 2018, Gregg was presented with a Quilt of Valor in a ceremony at his home with his family present.
Gregg will be deeply missed by his wife, Nancy; sons, Jon Hawley of Alpharetta, Georgia; Jake (Claire) Hawley of Brighton, United Kingdom; grandchildren, Porter Hawley, Hermione, Otto and Frida Hawley; brothers, Chris (Janina) Hawley of Fruitland, Randy (Donna) Hawley of Bellingham, WA and Curt (Nornie) Hawley of Loveland, CO and several nieces and nephews.
Gregg was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Pamela at child birth and brother, Steve Hawley.
