Gerald "Jerry" W. Burr

Gerald “Jerry” Burr, 91, of Lone Tree passed away on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at home with his loving family by his side.  A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm at  Synder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Lone Tree.  Burial will be in Lime  City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Iowa City Hospice or Disabled American Veterans.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.  The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Lone Tree is caring for Jerry’s family and arrangements.

Jerry was born on January 26, 1935 in Muscatine, Iowa the son of Albert and Wanda (Loga) Burr.  He graduated from Muscatine High School.  Jerry was united in marriage to Alice Proctor on September 11, 1954.  He worked for REC for over 50 years, first as a lineman and later going on to be a foreman.  Jerry was dedicated to making sure the rural communities received electricity quickly after power outages.  He was also dedicated to serving his community as a volunteer firefighter with the Lone Tree Fire Department.  When he wasn’t working, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, and riding around town on his golf cart sharing in local gossip over a cup of coffee.  Above all else, Jerry loved his grandchildren.

Jerry will be missed by his children Stephen (Lisa) Burr and Cynthia Burr; grandchildren Cheyenne Burr, Shayna Burr, Travis (Natalie) Mills, and Natasha (Dustin) Smith; great-grandchildren Jayden Smith, Scarlett Smith, Gracelyn Smith, Brantley Mills, Journie Paul, and Gavin Paul; his brother Ralph Burr, and many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Albert and Wanda; wife Alice in 2016; brothers George, Robert, Clifford, Richard “Pete”, and Frank; and his sister Marian Schubich.

Jerry’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff with Iowa City Hospice , the VA, and Superior Care Iowa for all of their care and support throughout the years.
