George Van Dyke Obituary

George Van Dyke, 83, of Melrose, Iowa, formerly of Conesville and Nichols area, passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf.  Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine.  Following the visitation, a lite luncheon will be served.  Memorials have been established for Nichols Responders and Conesville Fire Department.    Online condolences can be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

George Van Dyke was born on April 20, 1940 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Eryl and Edith (Gingles) Van Dyke.  George attended school in Conesville..  On December 31, 1960, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Worrell.  George had worked as a supervisor for HON Industries and upon retirement became the co-owner of the Sportsman Tavern in Conesville along with his wife.  George later returned to work at HON Industries from which he again retired and worked in maintenance at Muscatine General Hospital.  He enjoyed fishing, playing baseball, hunting and trap shooting.  He was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association and volunteered with the Conesville Fire Department. 

George will be deeply missed by his wife, Cheryl; daughter, Viki Martinez of Conesville; grandchildren, Valery Kulsh, Stephanie Bracker-Reggelsen and Anthony Martinez; ten great-grandchildren; half-sister, Shirley Reynolds of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law, Ila Van Dyke of Cedar Rapids and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Sandra Leonard; siblings, Jack Van Dyke and sister, Katherine Klaus. 

George’s family donated his pacemaker through the Beat Goes On Program with Iowa State University of Veterinary Medicine.
