Frances McGill Obituary

Frances Naomi McGill, 86, of Wapello passed away peacefully Sunday, November 3rd, 2024 at Wapello Nursing Home with family at her side.  Visitation will be held Thursday, November 7th, from 9:30 – 11:30 am at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral Home, 209 Franklin Street Wapello, IA. Funeral services will follow at 11:30 am. Graveside services will be held at Wapello Cemetery following the service. Luncheon to follow cemetery services at Wapello Methodist Church.  A memorial has been established for the Louisa County Food Pantry and the Wapello Fire Department.  Frances McGill, was born on June 7th, 1938, in Iowa City, IA the daughter of Woodrow Joseph Moore and Helen Clara (Bowers) Moore.  She attended Wapello High School, Wapello, IA. On July 3, 1954, she was united in marriage to Jerry McGill.  Frances worked for Odessa TV & Appliance, Thatcher Plastics, IRC and Sylvania.  In her retirement years, she and Jerry traveled, played golf, enjoyed winters in Texas and time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren.  She was a long-time member of Indian Hills Country Club (Heritage Oaks), serving on the board. Frances belonged to the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wapello and served on the board as well.  She volunteered at the Louisa County Food Pantry for a number of years. In her free time, Frances enjoyed playing golf, boating, bowling, gardening, but mostly she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Frances will be deeply missed by her son Jerry (Cherri) McGill of Wapello, daughter Kim (Doug) Brown of Wapello, son David (Shelly) McGill of Johnston, IA; grandchildren, Seth (Jade) McGill, Summer (Blake) Friis, Chad (Lori) Brown, Bethany (Shay) Moore, Cade McGill; Great-Grandchildren, Fiona McGill, Jude McGill, Pheobe McGill, Gabe Friis, Cooper Friis, Parker Friis, Ethan Brown, Zion Moore and Zephyr Moore; Sister, Sheryl (Moore) Van De Walle of Wapello, Brother Jim Moore of Wapello and Brother Kenny Moore of Wapello.  MANY nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; father, Woodrow Moore; mother, Helen, Moore; brother, Joe Moore; sister, Shirley Wilkerson; sister, Delores Brown.
