Everett “Butch” Slaughter, Jr., 74, of Kalona, formerly of Riverside, passed away on Monday, September 11, 2023, at his home in Kalona. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 14, 2023, from 3:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 15, 2023, at the church. Following the services, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the St. Mary’s Parish Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Riverside Emergency Services Association or Mary’s Farm Sanctuary in memory of Butch. Everett Lester Slaughter, Jr. was born on June 3, 1949, in Iowa City, Iowa the son of Everett L. and Margaret J. (Brazee) Slaughter. He was a graduate of Highland High School. On September 5, 1970, Butch was united in marriage to Susan K. Young in Wellman. He worked for CRandIC Railroad, Moore North American for 28 years as a machine operator and then Mayflower at the University of Iowa for 7 years. He was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Riverside Fire Department for 19 years and Riverside 1st Responders for 9 years being one of the original responders. They were the first team of 1st Responders in Washington County.
Butch will be deeply missed by his wife, Sue of Kalona; his children, Christopher Slaughter and fiancé, Misty Martens of Center Point and Heath and Amy Slaughter of Ainsworth; grandchildren, Abner, Maddie, Livy, Remington and Easton and one brother, DeWayne “Skip” Slaughter of Riverside.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents.
