Evelyn Beard Obituary

Evelyn Beard, 84, of Winfield, passed away on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at home
surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 30,
2020, at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Winfield. Following
the services, burial will be held at Winfield Scott Township Cemetery. Friends may call on
Tuesday, September 29, 2020, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial has
been established at the funeral home in memory of Evelyn. Online condolences may be left to

Evelyn Elizabeth Degen was born on April 29, 1936, in Oakville, the daughter of
Raymond and Mellie (Lott) Degen. Evelyn was united in marriage to Richard “Fidler” Beard on
June 23, 1954 in Oakville. Evelyn was a homemaker who welcomed all as her own. She was a
member of Church of the Full Gospel in Keokuk. Evelyn dedicated many years as a Girl Scout
leader and served on many committees local and council wide. She was awarded a Thanks Badge
for her manys years of outstanding volunteerism. In her younger years she loved to play
basketball and softball. Evelyn enjoyed sewing, crocheting, quilting, cooking, baking (she was
known for her flavored angel food cakes) reading, completing word games, gardening and
babysitting. Most of all, she loved being with and taking care of her family.
 
Evelyn will be deeply missed by her children, Richard (Jackie) Beard of Crawfordsville,
Karen Lihs of Kansas City, MO, Debra Briggs of Mediapolis, Cindy Beard of Winfield, Bruce
(Jonalee) Beard of Belgrade, MO, Susan Beard of Winfield, Linda (Steve) Hendricksmeyer of
Keokuk and Cheryl Beard of Winfield; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three
great-great grandchildren; sisters, Lois Hull of Hannibal, MO and Dorothy Bowers of
Burlington; her aunt, Frances Scoggins, Staunton, Illinois as well as many cousins, nieces and
nephews; her furkids and grand furkids.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and three brothers, John,
Howard and Melvin.
