Gene Slater, 79, of Grandview, passed away Friday, March 17, 2023 at his home in Grandview. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be left to the family in memory of Gene. Eugene Raymond Slater was born August 3, 1943 in Muscatine, the son of William and Agnes (Bekker) Slater. On January 30, 1987, he was united in marriage to Sandi Forbes in Muscatine. He retired from GPC after 29 years. Gene enjoyed road trips, camping, flea markets, antiques, mushroom hunting and NASCAR. He always looked forward to celebrating the 4th of July with a party filled with family and friends. Gene was a great grandpa and loved going to the drag races and cheering on his grandsons.
Gene will be deeply missed by his wife, Sandi of Grandview; daughters, Barb Lewis of Muscatine, Amanda (Dustin) Crabtree of Nichols, and Angela Brown of Elizabeth City, NC; four grandchildren; Gavin (Courtney) Curtis, Kelsey (Jason) Cortez, Meagan Wolf and Clint Brown; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Robert (Louise) Slater of Mediapolis; sisters, Delores (Jim) Lid of Utah and Janet Slater of Burlington, special nieces, Kathy McConnaha and Kelly Stephens and two spoiled schipperkes, Skipper and Milo.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Maurice and Donald and son-in-law, Dan Lewis.
