Ellen "Nana" Jean (Franklin) Rice

Ellen “Nana” Jean Rice, 62, of Morning Sun, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2020 at Great River Medical Center in Burlington.  Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, 2020 at Elmwood Cemetery.  The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Morning Sun, formerly the Hagele and Honts Funeral Home is caring for the family.  A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Ellen’s name. Ellen Jean Franklin was born May 25, 1957 in Mount Pleasant, the daughter of Donald and Bonnie Jean (Sapp) Franklin.  She was a 1975 graduate of Winfield- Mount Union Schools.  Ellen was united in marriage to William Rice on September 9, 1995 in Morning Sun.  She had been employed at Metro Mail in Mt. Pleasant and later at the Walmart Distribution Warehouse for 19 years.  She loved cheering on her St. Louis Cardinals and spending time with her family and her dog Cooper.  Ellen could always be found cheering on her grandchildren at one of their many sporting events.

Ellen will be dearly missed by her husband, Bill Rice of Morning Sun; her twin children, Aaron (Addy) Taylor of Keokuk, Amy (Bo) Hartman of Eldon; children, BJ (Emily) Rice of Morning Sun, Misty (Brian) Bertlshofer of Burlington, Trisha (Nick) Diewold of West Burlington; grandchildren, Layne Taylor, Treyton, Weston and Dalton Hartman, Cameron and Ryder Rice, Tyce and Bryn Bertlshofer, Mason Forquer, Brady and Layton Diewold; and sister, Beckie Joans of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Mildred Sapp; parents; sister, Bonita Franklin and grandson, Aidon Hartman.

Nana will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
