Elaine (Cling) Gerling

Elaine Gerling, 94, of Mediapolis, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at Prairie Ridge Care Center.  Friends may call from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Mediapolis.  The family will not be present.  Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the funeral home.  Private burial will be held in St. Paul’s Church Cemetery.  Masks and Social Distancing will be observed by all in attendance.  A memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in Elaine’s name.  Sympathy notes may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com. 

Elaine Cling was born on July 19, 1926 at the Burlington Hospital to Edwin and Agnes (Bloom) Cling.  Elaine grew up on the Cling farm northeast of Mediapolis.  In 6th grade Elaine was stricken with spinal meningitis and by the grace of God survived.  Which in those days there were few survivors from spinal meningitis.  Elaine attended Mediapolis School where she graduated in 1945.  On June 28, 1948, she was united in marriage to Martin Carl Gerling at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis.  Martin preceded her in death on May 25, 1997.  After marriage Elaine lived on the farm in Sperry where she raised her five children.  In April of 2015, she took up residency at Prairie Ridge care facilities in Mediapolis until the time of her death.   Elaine was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.   Elaine’s hobbies included watching soap operas on TV, listen to the radio especially the Grand Ole Opry and Mediapolis girls basketball games.  In her later years at Prairie Ridge her hobbies included BINGO, noodle ball, listening to the Apostolic singers and Sunday afternoon church service worshipping Jesus with Pastor Baker, and her family.   

Elaine is survived by one daughter, Ruth Gerling of Mediapolis; two sons, Carl Gerling and Joe (Patti) Gerling both of Mediapolis; two brothers, Dean Cling of Overland Park, Kansas and Roger (Greta) Cling of West Des Moines, Iowa; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way. 

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Rose Tisor and Mary Martinaeu and grandson, Patrick Tisor.
