Duane Lynch, 93 of Washington, formerly of Wapello passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 at his home in Washington. Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and United Presbyterian Home of Washington in Duane’s name. Memorials may be sent to the Lynch family in care of the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral Home, 209 Franklin Street, Wapello, Iowa 52653. Duane Verlin Lynch was born on March 16, 1933 in Des Moines County, Iowa, the son of Verlin Earl and Vivian Pearl (Housman) Lynch. Duane was a 1951 graduate of Wapello High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 until 1956. Following his time in the service, Duane farmed in Louisa County for nine years. On July 9, 1954, Duane was united in marriage to Marilyn Hayes in Wapello. Duane and Marilyn owned and operated the Wapello Apparel from 1976 until 1979. Duane worked at Monsanto for 28 years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Wapello and the Wapello Methodist Church. Duane enjoyed traveling with his family, seeing all 50 states and 45 countries. He was an avid Hawkeye fan and also enjoyed golfing, fishing, boating and all kinds of sports.
Duane will be deeply missed by his wife, Marilyn; daughter, Susan Lynch (Jim Clayton) of Monterey, California; son-in-law, Tom Husak of Baldwin, Missouri; grandchildren, Taylor Clayton (Dylan Boyer), Lauren Clayton, Corey Husak, Martin (Emma) Husak, Trent (Ann) Husak and Kyle (Shannon) Husak; four great-grandchildren, Ambrose, Callum, Teresa and Thomas; sister, Sherry Crooks of Burlington; brother, Alan Lynch of Golden Dale, Washington; sister-in-law, Beverly Paris; brother-in-law, Milton Hayes; several nieces and nephews; and extended family foreign exchange students, Gabriella and Nadia.
Duane was preceded in death by his father, Verlin Lynch; mother and step-father, Vivian and Forrest Fry; daughter, Sharon Husak; sibling, Ronnie Fry, Bobby Lynch and Peggy Lynch.
