Dorothy A. (Bailiff) Johnson

Dorothy A. Johnson, 96, of Lone Tree, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the Lone Tree Health Care Center.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree.  Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery.  Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue or the Lone Tree Presbyterian Church in memory of Dorothy.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.  The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Lone Tree is caring for Dorothy’s family and arrangements.

Dorothy Arlene Bailiff was born on August 22, 1929, in Marion, Oregon the daughter of Paul O. and Viola M. (Gebbie) Bailiff.  She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College.  On July 8, 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage to Benny D. Johnson in Corning, Iowa.  She taught Country School for 5 years and worked in the Taylor County Engineer’s Office, the Farm Bureau in Bedford, Iowa and the last Johnson County Treasurer’s Office Motor Vehicle Department, retiring in June of 1992.  Dorothy attended the United Presbyterian Church in Lone Tree and was a member of the Fireman’s Auxiliary, Fireman’s Wives Card Club, Lone Tree Women’s Club, Lone Tree Chamber of Commerce, T.O.P.S., Lone Tree Health Care Center Board Member for 17 years and she and her husband, Benny, started Bid for Baskets sold during the Lone Tree Fall Festival.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her children, Jennifer A. (Allen) Pettitt of Coralville, Joel B. (Janene) Johnson of LaValle, Wisconsin and Jill C. Wieder of Iowa City; grandchildren, Angie Mcneal (Will Davis), Ben (Susan) Pettitt, Catie (Curt) Woodford and Sasha Kohn; great-grandchildren, Nikki Russell, Skyler Pettitt, Cecil Mcneal, Emerie (Caleb) Blieu, Kailyn Pettitt, Danielle Pettitt, Braxton Kohn, Ethan Woodford, Tommy Pettitt, Kash Weisensel, Quinlea Johnson and Bennie Johnson; great-great grandchildren, Bryan, Aiden, Maridia, Elijah, Emilia, Aurora, Paisley and Olson and special dog, Jingles “Jingy”.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Kevin Wieder; grandson, Tyler Johnson; brothers, Kenneth Bailiff, Vernon Bailiff and Richard (Darlene) Bailiff and sisters, Evelyn (Ray) Thomas and Beverly (Richard) Bohanan.
