Doris F. Carty, age 95 of Mt. Union, passed away quietly the morning of December 10, 2025, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center. Mrs. Carty was born June 26 in Churdan, Iowa. She graduated from Churdan High School in 1947. She attended Buena Vista College, in Storm Lake, Iowa, where she met her future husband John W. Carty, from Abingdon, Virginia. They were married in June of 1948.
In 1949, a daughter, Dixie Lynne was born. Their son, John Jeffrey, was born in 1959. Doris and John were members of the Winfield Presbyterian Church. Doris was active for several years in P.E.O. and served as its president. She was a proud grandmother to her two grandchildren, John Matthew and Kathryn Elizabeth.
She always had a great love for music, sang, and played both the piano and organ. In her later years, Doris enjoyed working in the garden and traveling throughout the United States and Europe. She especially enjoyed the many trips she and John took to Hawaii throughout the years.
Survivors include her two children, Dixie and Jeff, grandchildren, Matthew and Katie, and two great-grandchildren, Owen and Elizabeth. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Pauline Barnes, her brother, Darwin, and husband, John.
Visitation for Doris will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Winfield. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the Winfield First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow the services at Winfield Scott Township Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Winfield First Presbyterian Church in memory of Doris. Sympathy notes may be left at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.
