Donald Westaway, 92, of Conesville, passed away on May 31, 2021 at his home. Private services will be held at a later date. Donald Hugh Westaway was born June 13, 1928 in Moline, IL, the son of George and Iva (Devore) Westaway. He was drafted during the Korean Conflict into the United States Army and served as a tank driver and gunner in Germany from 1951 to 1952. After his discharge he returned home to farm. In 1955 he joined the United States Air Force and was a mechanic, first on prop planes and later on B-52 Bombers for the Strategic Air Command. Following his discharge, he was united in marriage to Amy Bass on January 25, 1962 in El Paso, TX. The couple moved to Iowa and Donald worked as a HVAC technician at the Farmers Elevator Exchange in Wapello for 25 years. He was a member of the Nichols United Methodist Church, the Columbus Junction American Legion Post 100 and the NRA. Donald enjoyed gardening, woodworking and was always busy working on a project. Most of all, he enjoyed being with his family.
Donald will be deeply missed by his children, Terry (Deborah) Westaway, Rhonda Westaway, both of Conesville; grandchildren, Sammi (Brandon) Harris and Alexzandria Westaway and great-grandchildren, Kaden and Kale Harris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife and siblings, Iva, Grace, Mildred, George and Fred.
