Donald M. Sorensen

Don Sorensen, 94, of Wapello passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024 at Southeast Iowa Regional Hospice House in West Burlington.   Per Don’s Wishes there will be no visitation or services.   A memorial has been established for the Wapello Fire and Rescue in Don’s name.  Memorials and cards may be sent to the family in care of the funeral home at 209 Franklin Street, Wapello, Iowa 52653.  Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Wapello is caring for Don’s arrangements and his family.    Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservices.com.

Donald M. Sorensen was born on December 26, 1929, in Racine, Wisconsin, the son of Peter and Katherine ( Soudergaard) Sorensen.  Don was a graduate of Burlington High School.  He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force.  On October 18, 1951, Don was united in marriage to Nettie Blanchard in Burlington.  Don retired from J.I Case Company after 40 years of service and 6 years of consulting for them.  He was a 50-year member of the Wever Odd Fellows Lodge 552, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Ducks Unlimited and the Denmark Congregational Church.  Don was an avid Duck hunter, he loved to be at Lake Odessa, a jack of all trades and enjoyed tinkering and helping others. 

Don will be deeply missed by his children, Sharon (Darwin) Fritz of Fremont, Nebraska, Michelle (Ben) Heckart of Danville, Dawn (Jon) Oliver of Martinsburg, Iowa and Douglas Sorensen of North Little Rock, Arkansas; eight grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Nettie on December 28, 2023 and siblings, Earl, Kenny and Lyle.
