David Ewart Sr. Obituary

A Celebration of Life of Old Man Ewart will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026 starting at 4:00 p.m. at his son, Brad’s shop at 839 Weaver Blvd, Wapello, IA.  It will be a potluck fish fry, so please bring a dish or a memory or both.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David Richard Ewart Sr who joined Jesus peacefully at the ripe old age of 78. Dave was born on February 12, 1947 in Iowa. Believe it or not he was the baby of the family with 5 brothers and 1 sister born before him. He was raised primarily in Missouri making him a true hillbilly from “misery”, In 1968 he was united in marriage to Sherry Schorr. From this union they had 2 boys and 2 girls. Dave and Sherry were later divorced. On October 27, 1991 he married Darla Rick. Dave was a man of many jokes and stories but you needed to be prepared because you couldn’t listen without taking a jigger with him first. One of the orneriest men around, there probably wasn’t a person in all of Louisa County that hadn’t either seen Dave’s tighty whiteys or the lack there of. In his free time he could be found hunting, fishing, trapping or toodling around on his lawn mower making his rounds. He could also be found cruising around in his ole gray Dodge that you definitely didn't want to get stuck behind if you were in a hurry because he never was. Dave was known by many different names. Old man Ewart, Senior, Crockett and Dad were just a few, but there may also be some that can’t be mentioned. Out of all those his favorite was Papa. His love for his grandchildren and great grandchildren was neverending. Dave is survived by his wife Darla, sons Brad (Amanda) Ewart and Dave jr (Angie) Ewart. Daughters Tracee (Brian) Holmes and Jamie Ewart. Two stepchildren Jennifer (Aaron) Calvin and Larry (Shanna) Beeding. Brothers Dan and Leon as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren with one on the way. There to greet him at the Pearly Gates were his parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and a great grandson. Condolences, flowers or cards can be sent to his wife at 204 South main in Wapello or any family members you may know.  The Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Wapello is caring for the family.
