Daniel Clinton Reed

Dan Reed, 60, of Illinois City, passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at his home.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. – 8: 00 p.m. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Drury Reynolds Cemetery.  Following the committal service, a time of food and fellowship will be held at Dan’s shop in Illinois City.  Memorials may be left to his grandchildren in memory of Dan.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com

Daniel Clinton Reed was born on April 26, 1965, in Muscatine, Iowa the son of Merle and Linda (Sedam) Reed Jr. He was a 1983 graduate of Rockridge High School.  On September 22, 1990 he was united in marriage to Susan Kay Gremmels.  The couple later divorced.  Dan was a lifelong farmer on the family farm in Illinois City. In the winter he plowed snow for the DOT for a number of years. In the summer, he could often be found baling hay.  Growing up he showed dogs and continued to raise hunting dogs.  Along with his father, he worked with hogs and started his own Simmental cattle herd.  As his kids grew, he was involved with 4H and FFA and helped them show cattle at various fairs.  Along with farming he would drive truck, hauling rock and grain. When he wasn’t busy with the farm he loved to ride his Harley.  Most of all, he loved spending time with the family, especially the grandchildren.  Dan was a hard worker.  He was selfless and showed that by caring for future generations.

Dan will be deeply missed by his children, Amanda Reed of Muscatine, Ashley (Luke Fitchner) of New Boston and Derek (Ashley) Reed of Illinois City; grandchildren, Ayvin Newcomb, Simmi Reed and Ruzek Reed; mother, Linda Reed of Illinois City; and sister, Sherry Reed of Maricopa, AZ.

He was preceded in death by his father.
