Daniel “Wayne” Burns, 93, of Muscatine, passed away on Sunday, August 11, 2024 surrounded by his family at his home. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine. Memorial Services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. A memorial has been established in Wayne’s name. Daniel Wayne Burns was born on February 20, 1931, in Muscatine, the son of Daniel Austin and Vida Ola (Edgington) Burns. Wayne attended Park Place country schools in Muscatine. On July 23, 1950, Wayne was united in marriage to Mary Frances Orr in Muscatine. Mary preceded him in death on July 2, 2003. On October 16, 2005, Wayne was united in marriage to Karen Reed Schreurs in Muscatine. Wayne began working at the age of 17 for H.J. Heinz where he started in janitorial work before moving to mechanical. In 1963 he then went to work for Alcoa where he worked for 30 years as a millwright, retiring in 1993. Wayne was a former member of the Masonic Lodge, Eagles and Our Savior Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trapping and doing Karaoke at the nursing home.
Wayne will be deeply missed by his wife, Karen Burns of Muscatine; children, Dan (Billie) Burns of Muscatine, Beverly (Dennis) Beck of Muscatine, Marion (Rick) Curry of Muscatine, Linda (Gary) Newcomb of Tipton, Brian (Lynnette) Burns of Muscatine, John Schreurs of Muscatine and Dawn Gerling of Columbus Junction; grandchildren, Daniel Craig( Julia) Burns, Nicholas (Missy) Burns, Amanda (Pete) Smillie, Melissa (Aaron) Tiffany, Sara (Steve Hartson) Noah, Brian (Kristi) Beck , Ken (Genette) Curry, Angela (Mike) Garrison, Eric (Jody) Curry, Angee (Curt Bowling) Pleggenkuhle, Misty (Matt) Starkweather, Valerie (Michael) Medchill, Stephanie (Garett Foster) Burns, Jordan (Abbey) Gerling, and Stacy (Nick) Messinger; 30 great-grandchildren and two on the way; one great- great-grandchild and one on the way.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary; one daughter, Vickie Burns; son-in-law, Randy Ray; grandson-in-law, Paul Boldt and siblings, Helen Dennison, Jack Burns and Bonnie Conklin.
