Dan "Bub" Leroy Pine

Dan “Bub” Leroy Pine, 90, of Tucson, AZ passed away peacefully on January 27,
2026.

Dan was born on July 7, 1935, in Columbus City, lowa to Haig and Nola Pine.

He was raised on a farm in Columbus City, where he learned the value of hard
work. Dan attended Columbus Junction High School, where he played football and
basketball, ran track, and played the clarinet. He was named the Columbus
Junction High School basketball team’s most valuable player for the season.

In February 1955 Dan entered and served in the U.S. Army at Fort Leonard Wood
in Missouri.

After his military service, Dan began his career with Texaco in Long Beach,
California. He started as an office clerk, earned numerous promotions, and
ultimately served as a senior marketing representative.

In 1978, following a promotion with Texaco, Dan relocated to Tucson, Arizona. He
was deeply committed to his work, dedicating more than 34 years to the
company. Dan was well respected and greatly valued at Texaco, where he was
frequently recognized and celebrated for his contributions. He retired from
Texaco in 1994.

Anyone who knew Dan knows that he savored life and always enjoyed traveling
and recreation. He took many trips including a 7-day rafting trip down the
Colorado river. He went to Japan to see U of A play football, stopping in Hong
Kong and China on the way back to the U.S.

He went on many more memorable trips, including visits to Alaska and Silverton,
Colorado; boating on Lake Powell; and traveling to St. John and St. Thomas
aboard a Norwegian Cruise Line ship. He was also deeply passionate about
discovering his genealogy and traveled to Germany and Canada to trace his family
roots.

He valued an active lifestyle and had a strong connection to sports. His interests
included competitive tennis in which he competed in both singles and doubles
matches. He also gave back to the community by volunteering as a youth
basketball coach at his church.

He is survived by his daughter Debbie (Eric) Juengel, his sister Elaine (Harold)
Nicholson, his grandchildren Danielle Juengel and Derek Juengel, his three great
grandchildren, as well as longtime friend Susan Lake.

Dan’s family will host a celebration of his life for those local to Tucson at Calvary

Tucson East Campus (8711 E. Speedway Blvd 85710) on Friday February 13, 2026 at 10:00
a.m. There will also be a final service in his home town of Columbus City, lowa where he will be laid to rest.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026 at  the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Columbus Junction.  Graveside services will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Columbus City Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercury One https://mercuryone.org/  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com

Dan will be remembered for his deep love of God and his unwavering devotion to
his family and friends. He also had a deep love and passion for his country as well
as sports, specifically U of A sports, in which he would want us to say “Bear
Down!”.

His spirit will live on through the family and friends who loved him deeply, his
accomplishments and through everyone that he has mentored and influenced
throughout his life.
