Christopher Hawley Obituary

Christopher James “C.J.” Hawley, 72, of Muscatine, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at Lutheran Living surrounded by family.  Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. at Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services, 2907 Mulberry Avenue, Muscatine.  Committal Service with Military Honors will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024 at Rock Island National Cemetery.  The family would like those interested in attending the committal service to join them at the parking lot of the Visitor Center of Rock Island National Cemetery, 2300 Prospect Drive, Rock Island, Illinois at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29, 2024.  Everyone will then enter the gates to Rock Island National Cemetery as a group.   Following the committal service, a memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. at Island United Methodist Church, 2598 Stewart Road, Muscatine.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Muscatine Humane Society or the Muscatine Arboretum Association in C.J.’s name. C. J. was born on February 2, 1952 in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of James and Janet (Moore) Hawley.  He was a 1970 graduate of Muscatine High School and then went on to serve in the United States Marines from 1972-1973.  On October 16, 1976, he was united in marriage to Janina Winegard in Muscatine.  C.J. worked for Monsanto for 33 years, retiring in 2007.  He was a member of the Island United Methodist Church, the Muscatine American Legion and a former member of the Fruitland Community Lions Club.  He enjoyed gardening, lawncare, motorcycles and restoring cars - especially Volkswagens.   

C. J. will be deeply missed by his wife of 48 years, Janina Hawley of Muscatine; sons Lance (Sheri) Hawley of Newton and Nicholas Hawley of Davenport; four grandchildren, Rexton, Tristan, Regina and Isaac; brothers, Randy (Donna) Hawley of Bellingham, Washington and Curtis (Nornie) Hawley of Loveland, Colorado; sister-in-law, Nancy Hawley of Muscatine; sister-in-law, Stacey Simmons of Illinois City; sister-in-law, Diane Winegard of Muscatine; brother-in-law, Cort (Colleen) Winegard of Keota; several nieces and nephews and good friends Steve Garrett and Sue Baer. 

C.J. was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Gregg Hawley and Steve Hawley; sister, Pamela; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Al and Lucille Winegard; brother-in-law, Chad Winegard and brother-law, Byron Simmons.
