Chester "Chet" T. Smith, Sr

Chester “Chet” T. Smith, Sr. 76 of Muscatine, passed away Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Lantern Park Care Center in Coralville.  A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Columbus City Cemetery, Columbus City, Iowa.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at 4:00 P.M. at the Chapel of Praise Church of God, 1963 N. tipton Road, Muscatine.  Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services of Muscatine is assisting the family.  Memorials in Chet’s name may be made to the family.  Online condolences for the family may be sent to www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Chester Theodore Smith was born on August 23, 1950 to Paul and Faye (Dennis) Smith.  He spent his childhood growing up at his grandparents in Columbus Junction and graduated from Columbus Junction High School in 1969.  After high school, Chet joined the United States Army and served during Vietnam.  He was united in marriage to Beverly Irene Skidmore on March 4, 1972.  Chet loved to be outdoors and he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with his family.  He owned and operated CB&J Iron Salvage Yard for many years before he retired. 

Chet will be missed by his sons Chester Jr. and Lee; brother Dorlan (Irene) Smith; sister in law Sabrina Smith; many nieces and nephews and his “adopted kids” from the community.

Chet was preceded in death by his wife Beverly; his parents Paul and Faye; and his siblings Delores (Russell) Cole, Bessie (Frank) Lascelles, Paul Smith, and Earl Smith.
