Obituary

Catherine (Cathy) Ann Bush went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 2, 2022. She passed away at Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center in Burlington due to complications from a recent heart attack.

Cathy was born June 9, 1948 in Marshalltown, IA the firstborn of Erwin and Monica (Oetker) Rebik. She grew up in the Marshalltown area, graduating from Lenihan High School in 1966. Later in her life she attended Southeastern Community College in Burlington, earning her AA degree. She married David (Dave) Bush on April 20, 1974 in Marshalltown. They later relocated to the rural Mediapolis area where they farmed and raised their 4 children.

Cathy lived with multiple sclerosis, which later in her life affected several of her abilities, most notably, the ability to walk without some type of aid. She was an incredibly strong woman, who faced every obstacle with a smile and never complained. She was admired by many for her perseverance.

Prior to moving to the farm, Cathy worked for Fisher Controls in Marshalltown. Once she had children, she became a full-time stay-at-home mom. When her children were grown, she returned to work as the secretary at Grace United Methodist Church in Burlington.

Her life revolved around her family. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children and extended family. In recent years, much of her time was spent attending the various school and athletic activities of her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook, but in her later years could often be found eating out with her husband at their favorite local restaurants.

She was preceded in death by her parents, youngest brother David Rebik and her youngest son, Darin Bush.

Cathy is survived by her husband Dave of rural Yarmouth, 4 of her siblings: Dan Rebik of Haverhill, Chris (Jim) Crandell of Newton, Charlene Smith of Polk City and Cindi (Mark) Christensen of Polk City, along with sister-in-law Sharon (David-deceased) Rebik of Marshalltown. Also by 3 of her children and 9 grandchildren: Kevin (Erin) Bush of rural New London – Conner, Caleb & Carsyn; Steve (Magan) Bush of rural Sperry – Payton & Hayden; Renee (Ryan) Hunerdosse of Burlington – Madilynn & Kamryn; lastly Darin’s children – Kade & Fallon and their mother Megan Larson of Indianola.
