Byron Neil Wiseman

Byron Neil Wiseman, 57, was born on April 1, 1969, in Burlington, Iowa, and passed away on July 21, 2026, in Muscatine, Iowa. Quiet, reserved, and always willing to lend a helping hand, Byron was a man whose actions spoke louder than words. He found joy in caring for others, working with his hands, and spending time doing the things he loved.

Born only minutes apart, Byron and his identical twin brother, Myron, shared a lifelong bond that remained a treasured part of his life.

Byron enjoyed the outdoors and could often be found fishing the Mississippi River or Lake Odessa in search of the next great catch. One of his favorite memories was ocean fishing from a pier along the Gulf of Mexico, an experience he often looked back on with a smile. During mushroom season, he looked forward to walking the woods in search of morel mushrooms, enjoying both the hunt and the peacefulness of nature. One of his fondest memories in recent years was camping with his daughter, Sami, at the Mississippi Pumping Station, where they enjoyed the simple pleasure of spending time together outdoors.

Cooking was one of Byron's greatest passions. Early in his working life, he worked in several area restaurants where he developed a love for preparing good food. He especially enjoyed trying different hot sauces and creating hearty Italian dishes for family and friends. For Byron, sharing a meal was another way of showing he cared.

A gifted carpenter and maintenance professional, Byron was known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail. He believed the finishing touches mattered most and took particular pride in making every trim piece fit perfectly. Whether repairing a home, building something new, or helping someone with a project, Byron approached every job with patience, precision, and pride. He was especially close to his Aunt Lois and was always happy to help her with carpentry projects, home repairs, or whatever handyman work she needed. Being able to help family was something that brought him genuine satisfaction.

Even after his mother's health declined, Byron never stopped making time for her. He would often take her to Walmart, happily spending hours by her side as she browsed the aisles in her power chair. He never seemed to be in a hurry; he simply enjoyed being with her and making sure she could get out and enjoy the little things in life. Those quiet acts of love and patience reflected the caring son he always was.

He also enjoyed spending weekends browsing flea markets, attending classic car shows, and following the excitement of drag racing. He appreciated quality workmanship wherever he found it, whether in a finely crafted home, a well-built automobile, or a perfectly prepared meal. Anyone who spent time with Byron also knew how much he loved talking about the old days. He enjoyed reminiscing, sharing stories, and keeping family memories alive with anyone willing to sit and visit.

Byron is survived by his daughters, Jessica Wiseman of Mt. Pleasant and Samantha ("Sami") Wiseman of Burlington; bonus sons, James (Rachael) Lewis of Fort Madison, Clayton (Lea) Lewis of Galesburg, and Jules Short of Burlington; his grandchildren, Amari'Yante, Ray'Shaun, Azali'Ya, Ka'Ziaya, Kar'Syn, Christopher, Destiny, AbbyAnn, and Jade; great-grandchildren Anna and Lydia; his brothers, Michael (Denise) Wiseman and Brian (Stacie) Wiseman. He held a special place in his heart for his Aunt Lois while loving all of his aunts and uncles dearly. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and former coworkers whose lives were enriched by his kindness and generosity.

Byron was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jamie; his parents, Myron and Judy Wiseman; his identical twin brother, Myron Dean Wiseman; and his grandparents, Keith and Thelma Thomas and Ennos and Eileen Wiseman.

A celebration of Byron's life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those who knew Byron to honor his memory by casting a fishing line, walking the woods in search of mushrooms, preparing a meal to share with family, helping someone with a project, or simply taking pride in a job well done—just as Byron always did
