Betty E. Johnson, 91, of Muscatine, formerly of Letts, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at Bickford Cottage. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral & Cremation Services, 2907 Mulberry Avenue, Muscatine. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the Muscatine V.F.W. in Betty's name. Betty Eugenia Johnson was born on March 22, 1929 in Muscatine, Iowa, the daughter of Jacob W. and Mary E. (Hergenrader) Lichtenwald. On June 20, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Roy Dean Johnson in Muscatine. Betty was a 1948 graduate of MHS and went on to earn her BA from Marycrest in 1969. As a young child she had attended school at McKinley Elementary and later went on to teach 3rd grade there for 15-years. Betty was a member of the Grandview Community Bible Church, HON retirees, Muscatine Area Retired Teachers ( MARTA), Letts Garden Club, NEO-GEO Campers and was a Gold Star Mother. Betty enjoyed gospel songs and bluegrass festivals, reading, gardening and raising her flowers, visiting with friends and found great joy in attending her grandchildren’s school activities.
Betty will be deeply missed by her daughters, Susan (Gary) Stephens of Grandview and Jill (Dave) Weiershauser of Muscatine; five grandsons, Jamey Stephens, Jason (Tiffany) Stephens, Matthew Patrick, Justin (Melissa) Patrick, and Brian (Jennifer) Patrick and six-great grandchildren, Andrew and Riley Stephens, Joseph, Tyler, Casen and Annabelle Patrick.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2016; son, James Johnson in Vietnam; sisters, Lydia Weeks, Helen Cline, Esther Pulliam and Ruth Sullivan and brothers, Carl and Harold Lichtenwald.
