Alejandro Ponce Obituary

Alejandro Ponce, Jr., 22, of Camp Pendleton, formerly of Wapello, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Camp Pendleton.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services of Wapello.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Wapello High School Gymnasium.  Burial will be in the Columbus City Cemetery with military rites.  Following the committal services, a Celebration of Life will be held at the Briggs in Wapello.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Alejandro.  Sympathy messages can be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

Alejandro Ponce, Jr. was born on August 25, 1999, in Rock Island, Illinois the son of Alejandro Ponce Sr. and Jessica (Campbell) Ponce.  He was a 2017 graduate of Wapello High School, graduating early in order to join the military to attend Boot Camp.  Alejandro proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, currently stationed at Camp Pendleton.  He enjoyed fishing, hanging out with friends, working on cars, making people laugh and playing sports, especially soccer and wrestling.  Most of all, he dearly loved to spend time with his family and his dog, Ruby.  

Alejandro will be deeply missed by his parents, Alejandro and Jessica Ponce of Wapello; siblings, Estanislado “Tiny” (Ana) Tamez of Moline, John Paul (Beth) Tamez of Bismarck, North Dakota, Troy Tamez and fiancé, Jessica of Wapello, Junior Ponce of Wapello and Azpen Ponce of Wapello; paternal grandmother, Brigida Ponce-Raya of Mexico, special friend, Brianna Boore of California, childhood friends, Timo Caro, Rogan Pforts and Mireya Salas and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. 

Alejandro was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Manuel Ponce; maternal grandmother, Esther Jilpas and cousin, Jessie Jilpas.
