Neva JoAnn (Miller) Nelson

     Neva “JoAnn” Nelson, age 86, of Washington, Iowa, formerly of North Liberty, Iowa passed away December 9, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.  A Celebration of Life Service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019, at the Snyder & Hollenbaugh Funeral and Cremation Services in Columbus Junction.  Burial will be in Columbus City Cemetery at a later date.  Following the services at the funeral home, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Snyder and Hollenbaugh Community Center at the funeral home.  Visitation will be held on Friday, December 13, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established at the funeral home in JoAnn’s name.  Online condolences may be left for the family at www.sandhfuneralservice.com.

     Neva JoAnn Miller was born August 9, 1933, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph Edward and Ila Pearl (McNeese) Miller.  JoAnn attended schools in Washington and Louisa counties.  She was united in marriage to John Palmer in Columbus Junction.  She later was united in marriage to Grant Nelson in Wayland, Missouri.  JoAnn worked as a nurse’s aide at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for 39 years, working in the OB-GYN and Eye Clinics.  She was a member of the Lions Club along with a couple of organizations in North Liberty and enjoyed doing crafts and square dancing.

     JoAnn will be deeply missed by her sisters, Carol Thornton of Washington and Joyce Irving of Columbus Junction; brother, James Arthur Miller of Mt. Pleasant and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

      JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, John and Grant;  sister, Donna Smith and brothers-in-law, Eddie and Albert.
