Dean Harlan Hoehle was born February 8, 1928 in Wapello, Iowa, the son of Wade Huburt and Elsie Augusta (Welk) Hoehle. He attended school in Wapello and served honorably in the United States Navy during WWII. Dean was united in marriage to Janice Lee Salzwedel on June 13, 1953 in Wapello, Iowa.
Dean was a lifelong resident of Wapello. He was a letter carrier in Wapello for almost 40 years with a 13-mile walking route. He started working at the age of 14 as a projectionist at the local theater and continued doing so fulltime after returning from his military service. He had also worked at Patrick’s Home Center as an appliance repairman and was part-owner of the boat shop in Wapello. After retiring from the post office, Dean joined his brother in home construction.
Dean was a lifetime member of the Wapello VFW where he served as a commander for some time and of the Columbus Junction American Legion. Dean enjoyed bowling in his younger years and could always fix something if it was broken. He enjoyed boating, fishing and was a private pilot with a love of flying.
